What We Offer
Sustainable Lumber for Every Project
Houston Lumber is a full-service reclaimed lumber company based at 121 Esplanade Blvd in Houston, Texas. We buy, sell, process, and transport reclaimed wood sourced from building demolitions, warehouse teardowns, industrial deconstructions, and surplus inventory across the Gulf South. Every piece of lumber we handle is inspected, graded, and processed to meet the demands of residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
Our product line spans six core categories, each designed to serve a specific set of building needs. Whether you are framing a new structure with reclaimed dimensional lumber, installing a statement ceiling with custom-milled tongue-and-groove paneling, or building a backyard fence from weathered boards, we have the inventory and the expertise to match the right material to your application.
Choosing reclaimed lumber is not just an environmental decision — it is a quality decision. The old-growth timber found in structures built before the 1960s is denser, more dimensionally stable, and richer in character than virtually anything produced by modern mills. Tight growth rings, natural patina, and decades of seasoning give reclaimed wood a visual depth and structural integrity that new lumber simply cannot replicate. When you combine that inherent quality with our professional processing services — de-nailing, planing, kiln drying, resawing, and custom dimensioning — you get a product that is both sustainable and superior.

Project Spotlight
Heights District Mixed-Use Development
In early 2025, Houston Lumber supplied over 18,000 board feet of reclaimed material for a mixed-use development in the Houston Heights district. The project combined ground-floor retail spaces with upper-level residential lofts, and the developer wanted a consistent reclaimed aesthetic throughout the building. We provided reclaimed heart pine flooring for all residential units, reclaimed cypress shiplap paneling for the retail storefronts, reclaimed Douglas fir beams for the exposed ceiling structure in the common areas, and a complete set of custom-milled stair components in reclaimed white oak.
The project required coordinating four different product categories — reclaimed lumber, timber beams, custom millwork, and accessories — through a single point of contact. Our project manager worked directly with the general contractor to schedule material deliveries across multiple phases of construction, ensuring that each trade had the material it needed when it needed it. The developer reported a 15% cost savings versus sourcing from multiple specialty suppliers, and the project earned LEED Gold certification with reclaimed material contributing to multiple MR credit categories.
This type of comprehensive, single-source project is where Houston Lumber excels. When you consolidate your lumber procurement through one supplier that carries everything from raw framing stock to finished millwork to installation hardware, you reduce coordination overhead, minimize delivery costs, and ensure material consistency across the entire project.

General Care & Maintenance Tips
Whether you are working with reclaimed boards or new framing lumber, proper handling and maintenance will maximize the lifespan and appearance of your material.
Acclimate Before Installation
Store lumber in the environment where it will be installed for at least 7 to 14 days before cutting or fastening. This allows the wood to reach equilibrium moisture content and reduces post-installation movement.
Store Off the Ground
Always store lumber on stickers (spacer strips) with at least 4 inches of clearance from the ground. Stack layers flat with stickers aligned vertically to allow air circulation and prevent warping.
Protect from Weather
If storing lumber outdoors, cover the top of the stack with a tarp or plywood but leave the sides open for ventilation. Fully wrapping a stack traps moisture and promotes mold growth.
Choose the Right Fasteners
Dense reclaimed hardwoods require pre-drilling to prevent splitting. Use stainless steel or coated fasteners for outdoor applications to prevent corrosion staining. Avoid standard bright nails in treated lumber.
Apply Finish Promptly
Unfinished wood exposed to sunlight will gray within weeks. If you want to maintain the original color, apply a UV-resistant finish within 48 hours of installation. For interior use, penetrating oil brings out the grain beautifully.
Schedule Regular Inspections
For outdoor installations, inspect annually for signs of moisture damage, fastener corrosion, or insect activity. Catching issues early allows for spot repair rather than full replacement.
